Human lives and our planet Earth are remoulded by biotechnologies, nanotechnologies, and artificial intelligence: we are experiencing a new technological revolution. Cutting-edge technologies allow humans to transform systems as complex as living beings and their ecosystems as never before. These Complex Systems are “alive” masterpieces which have never been designed nor implemented from scratch by any human being. A spontaneous and crucial question arises: Is it always fair and safe to perform whatever technology allows us to do? It is challenging to answer this thorny question.
In this book, I propose a solution by merging my passion for the investigation into Complex Systems and my Christian faith. By joying Complexity Science and the Christian message, a “Winged Science” emerges.This “Winged Science” can help to face the bio-ethical issues generated by the new technological revolution.

Pier Luigi Gentili is a Professor and Researcher of Physical Chemistry at the Chemistry, Biology, and Biotechnology Department of the Università degli Studi di Perugia (Italy). His research and teaching activities are focused on Complex Systems and Complexity. He is contributing to developing innovative Chemical Artificial Intelligence (CAI). He is also the author of an interdisciplinary book on Complex Systems titled “Untangling Complex Systems: A Grand Challenge for Science”, whose first edition was published by CRC Press (USA) in 2018. He has work experience in different universities, such as Harvard, Brandeis, and Bowling Green State Universities in the USA, the UCL in London (UK), the Université Paul Sabatier-Toulouse III (France), the European Laboratory of Nonlinear Spectroscopy in Florence (Italy), and the Università di Siena (Italy). Although he is fond of science, P. L. Gentili believes that science alone cannot solve all human problems. According to him, particular challenges, such as those involved in bioethics, require that science and other forms of knowledge merge.
